1. It wasn't there when I checked earlier.
2. Cute. Puppy. What's not to love?
And then I found a few complaints among all the "Awww...so cute" comments. That the photo is, in fact, stolen. It's copyrighted to some Japanese website [link] and has been on the internet way before this person ever posted the photo on dA. Some people reasoned out that it's impossible for this person to be on the popular page after only 2 weeks on dA, which I think is unfair because there are some artists who are worthy of getting lots of faves and attention from fellow dA members. So I'm very glad that some of those who declared the picture stolen actually posted a link to the original picture.
But even if this wasn't a stolen photo, I'm not exactly sure why it still deserves to be popular. Yeah, it's cute. But that's it. It uses lighting as one deviant mentioned but it's also just like taking a snapshot of something and posting it on Photobucket. It doesn't have vision, depth or whatnot. If I take a picture of my cutest stuffed toy or my fat pet dog and post it on dA, I wonder if it'll become as popular as this photo.
It's sad that something like this can become popular in hours while some artists spend years being unknown and unloved here on dA. People will latch on to anything that's cute.
Don't get me wrong. I like cute. In fact, I love cute but there has got to be more than that, right? What is your cute artwork saying? What cute message are you trying to convey? Why is it a deviation? I guess I'm just ranting now but I hope that people are inspired to think after reading this.
Anyway, if you've been living under a rock (or haven't been to the home page), here's a link to the stolen puppy picture: [link]
I don't know how long the deviation will be up because someone already reported it. And if you come upon this after the infamous deviation's been erased, here is one of the external links given by those who identified it as a fake: [link],
